Alexander pins 1-0 defeat on Reagan

CORPUS CHRISTI — An alarming pattern is developing, and it’s making Reagan’s quest for a third straight UIL state tournament appearance difficult.

For a second week in a row, the Rattlers didn’t touch home plate as they dropped a 1-0 decision to Laredo Alexander in Game 1 of their best-of-3 Class 6A regional semifinal series Thursday at Cabaniss Field.

And for a second straight week, junior starter Travis Sthele was a hard-luck loser. Sthele struck out 10 and allowed six hits in a complete game.

“We couldn’t score,” Reagan coach Chans Chapman said. That’s been our Achilles heel. But when Travis pitches the way he did and we can’t score a run, it’s hard to win, especially this time of year.”
