Longmont Woman Accused of Possessing, Distributing Explicit Images, Videos of Children

Julie Ann Cunningham

A Longmont woman is facing three felony charges after police say they found sexually explicit photos and videos of children on her phone.

Julie Ann Cunningham, 54, was arrested Monday on suspicion of sexual exploitation of a child — possession of more than 20 items of sexually explicit material, sexual exploitation of a child;— possession of explicit materials with the intent to distribute them, and sexual exploitation of a child — distributes or publishes sexually exploitative material.

Cunningham is scheduled to be formally charged on Wednesday.

According to an arrest affidavit, Longmont police found more than 200 photos and videos of children on her phone after seizing electronics in her home in June and obtaining a warrant to search them.

Police received a tip about Cunningham in April. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children had first received the tip from Facebook.

A man sent the tip, which included messages that Cunningham sent to him via Facebook, according to the affidavit. One of the messages included an image of a clearly underage girl posing naked, the affidavit states.

The IP address showed the message was sent from Longmont. Under court order, Longmont Power and Communications provided police with the subscriber information based on the IP address.

After determining the messages were sent by Cunningham in May, the officer on the case discovered that Cunningham was under investigation for sexual assault of a minor in another Longmont police case, according to the affidavit. That case is still open and under investigation.

In June, police executed a search warrant at Cunningham’s home and seized 28 electronic devices. Once granted a search warrant to search the devices, police looked through Cunningham’s cell phone and found nearly 150 photos that qualified as “child exploitative images,” according to the affidavit.

Police also found 73 possible child exploitative photos, in which they could not determine people’s ages due to the camera angle and lighting. They also found 54 images of child erotica and 17 photos depicting bestiality, some of which showed bestiality with children, according to the affidavit.

Police also scanned the phone for videos and found 93 videos that qualified as child exploitative images, as well as six bestiality videos, the affidavit states. There also were a number of sexual photos and videos of Cunningham found on the phone’s SD card.

Cunningham is being held at Boulder County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond. She has no previous criminal history in Colorado, according to court records.
