AEG Presents makes big move in acquiring Columbus’ PromoWest

CLEVELAND, Ohio – In the latest concert industry shakeup that affects Ohio, AEG Presents, owner of Cleveland’s Agora and one of the top music event promoters in the world, has acquired Columbus concert titan PromoWest Productions.

The partnership expands AEG Presents’ impression in the Midwest, specifically Ohio, in a big way.

PromoWest, founded in 1983, essentially runs the concert business in Columbus, operating or booking shows at popular venues like EXPRESS LIVE!, Newport Music Hall, the Basement, the A&R Music Bar and STAGE AE in Pittsburgh.

PromoWest also owns Cincinnati’s big Bunbury Music Festival. However, AEG did not purchase Bunbury as part of the acquisition.

“PromoWest and AEG Presents share a passion and commitment to delivering the best music experiences to fans,” said Shawn Trell, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of AEG Presents, in a statement. “We look forward to working closely with them to continue to deliver first class concert experiences and further grow the PromoWest brand.”

The acquisition comes after AEG’s recent purchase and renovation of Cleveland’s Agora and the company’s involvement in the inaugural InCuya Music Festival in August.

In terms of the InCuya, AEG recently parted ways with senior vice president Joe Litvag and the team that led production and promotion of InCuya, leaving that festival’s future somewhat up in the air.

Representatives of the Cleveland Concert Company, who launched InCuya, say they plan to meet with AEG in the near future.
