Havasu man arrested after pawning friend’s belongings, police say
A Lake Havasu City man was arrested Jan. 10 on charges of trafficking stolen property.
The incident was reported in August, when the victim allegedly told police that a friend, Jeremy K. Carny, 29, had helped him move. The victim left several of his personal items behind, the report said, and Carny was holding those possessions for the victim. After several text messages in which the victim said he wanted to retrieve his belongings, he visited Carny’s home, the report said.
According to police, a family member of Carny’s presented the victim with pawn slips for the victim’s belongings, allegedly indicating that Carny pawned the victim’s items without permission. The items included a digital camera, a video game console and three musical instruments. The victim went with police to the pawn shop, where he positively identified each of his belongings, the report said.
Mohave County prosecutors filed charges against Carny in November, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Carny was located Jan. 10 at a Lake Havasu Avenue address, and arrested.
