Miss America Taken To Hospital After Accident

January 30, 1991

PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ Miss America Marjorie Judith Vincent was taken to a hospital Tuesday after the van she was riding in crashed into a jackknifed tractor-trailer rig, police said.

″She was observed and she’s fine and she’s been discharged,″ said a St. Agnes Medical Center spokeswoman who wouldn’t give her name.

Miss Vincent was being driven to Philadelphia International Airport to catch a flight to Washington at the time of the accident on U.S. Route 76.

She had just finished speaking at St. Joseph’s University, said Joseph Lunardi, a university spokesman.

Miss Vincent’s traveling companion, a university driver and two students also were taken to the hospital to be checked out. All were released.

Lunardi said Miss Vincent left the hospital with a band-aid on her knee and the students and driver were ″more shaken than injured.″

The companion, Bonnie Sirgani, suffered a minor knee injury, the hospital said.

″They were all feeling thankful,″ Lunardi said.

Police officer Dale Braun said the university van struck the disabled tractor-trailer in the rear.
