Man Arrested with Nine Pistols
TRIESTE, Italy (AP) _ Police on high alert for next week’s Venice summit arrested a man Saturday for illegal possession of nine pistols and ammunition, authorities said.
The man, identified as Franco Millo, 26, was picked up at his home in this city on the Yugoslav border, 100 miles from Venice. Leaders of seven Western industrialized nations will hold their annual summit in Venice on June 8-10.
Police said they found the weapons, ammunition and swastikas at Millo’s home. They said the house was raided because Millo was arrested in 1979 for allegedly manufacturing explosives.
Homes of alleged terrorist sympathizers and of convicted terrorists free on parole also have been raided as part of a stepped-up security program in preparation for the summit.
