Former Augusta National Chairman Hord Hardin Dies
AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) _ Hord W. Hardin, chairman emeritus of Augusta National Golf Club, died Monday in Harbor Springs, Mich., after a long battle with cancer. He was 84.
Hardin joined Augusta National in 1964. He was vice chairman from 1977 to 1979, when he was named acting chairman. He was elected chairman after the 1980 Masters Tournament and retired in May 1991.
Hardin was also chairman of the Masters rules committee from 1970 to 1980.
``Augusta National Golf Club, the Masters and the world of golf have lost a good friend and a great contributor to the game,″ said Augusta chairman Jack Stephens. ``Hord was an outstanding chairman of the club and the tournament and will be missed.″
