The Boulder County Transportation Department is inviting Niwot-area residents to a Wednesday open house to get information about several road reconstruction, resurfacing and railroad crossing projects scheduled to begin later this spring or summer.

The chief project to be featured at the open house — set for 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rocky Mountain Christian Church, 9447 Niwot Road — is the reconstruction and widening of North 95th Street between Lookout and Plateau roads south of Longmont.

That project, scheduled to begin later this month and last into the fall, will require daytime weekday lane reductions and shifts during 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekday working hours, county staff said in the Wednesday meeting announcement and the Boulder County website for the project — tinyurl.com/y2j4tbd3.

County officials have said there also will be delays on Colo. 52, Niwot Road and Oxford Road when construction operations move through those intersections with 95th Street.

The 95th Street work will include widening the road to increase shoulder widths, rebuilding the subsurface to increase resiliency, and creating a new asphalt roadway surface.

Boulder County Transportation Department also plans resurfacing three other Niwot-area roads, starting later this summer.

Those resurfacing projects include Niwot Road between Colo. 119 and Walker Drive; Neva Road between Franklin and North 83rd Streets, and Burgundy Drive north of Niwot Road.

The county also is to begin work in upcoming months on several area railroad crossing improvements needed to create quiet zones where trains approaching those crossings will not need to blare their horns to warn pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.

The three crossings include Monarch Road at Colo. 119, expected to start in April; Niwot Road at Colo. 119, expected to start in May; and Niwot’s Second Avenue at Colo. 119, expected to begin in June.
