Patio Southtown to reopen soon with AC, new drinks
The Patio Southtown is set to reopen next week after a four-month makeover to make it a more relaxed place to get your San Antonio chill on. Co-owner James Avery said he’s shooting to open May 7, pending a few new hires that need to be made to get fully staffed.
The restaurant and bar at 1035 S. Presa St. has been upgraded with a pair of new 2 ton air conditioning units, correcting a common complaint that the interior space was too hot to handle for many customers during the grueling summer months. The outdoor patio space was already outfitted with a mister system, and is consistently shaded from the afternoon sun.
“It just got too darn hot in here ... something needed to be done,” said Avery. “As I sit here now with new system, I’m actually developing a chill.”
Patio Southtown made its debut about a year ago, and closed in December for upgrades and branding tweaks. Many of the picnic tables have been outfitted with built-in chess, checkers and Scrabble boards, and a new Rockbot music system will allow patrons to select their favorite free tunes from a 2,400-song playlist after downloading an app.
Most of the food menu has carried over, with a lineup of bar bites that includes burgers, sandwiches, nachos and fried appetizers. Avery has plans to introduce a new drinks menu that will include the use of a Cyclone7 ReinMaker device that mixes cocktails with a visual show of brightly colored LED lights.
“It’s pretty neat,” Avery said. “This might be the only place in all of San Antonio that has one.”
