Michael Cohen team creates GoFundMe page in light of plea deal
Michael Cohen’s lawyer Lanny Davis has created a “truth fund” to raise money for the embattled lawyer’s legal fees.
“Michael decided to put his family and his country first. Now Michael needs your financial help to pay his legal fees,” the description reads.
Within the first nine hours of the fundraising campaign, nearly 400 people have donated over $19,000 as of Wednesday morning. The goal is currently set to $500,000.
“He and his family are suffering,” Mr. Davis said on MSNBC, “Michael is asking for anybody interested in helping him to go to this website.”
Mr. Cohen pleaded guilty on Tuesday to campaign finance charges, bank fraud, and tax evasion.
The lawyer admitted to misusing campaign funds to cover up two separate affair allegations made by Karen McDougal and Stormy Daniels. He said his actions were under the direction of a candidate for federal office.
Mr. Cohen’s GoFundMe page follows a similar attempt to gather money for former FBI agent Peter Strzok. It raised over $440,000 in just over a week and is one of the site’s top fundraisers.
