Fight outside stadium interrupts Hartsville-Wilson football game

October 13, 2018

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – A fight outside the stadium disrupted the Hartsville-Wilson football game Friday night.

The fight happened in the parking lot outside the gate of Kellytown Stadium.

Three people were detained by law enforcement, an officer on the scene told The Hartsville Messenger.

After the players from both teams exited the field, authorities made an announcement to empty the stadium so the stands could be swept. The plan was to resume the game.

Hartsville was leading 14-13 with 5:07 left in the fourth quarter.

With the grandstands empty, Hartsville went on to win its homecoming game 14-13.

Afterward, the Darlington County School District issued a statement.

“This evening a fight broke out outside Kelleytown Stadium at the Hartsville-Wilson football game,” spokeswoman Audry Childers wrote. “In an abundance of caution, law enforcement cleared the stadium and the parking lot. Though there were rumors of gunshots, an extensive law enforcement presence was unable to substantiate those rumors.”
