CALGARY, Alberta (AP) _ Forward Dave Lowry, who was Calgary’s captain last season and hasn’t played a game in the minor leagues since 1989, was demoted there by the Flames on Friday.

The 37-year-old Lowry will join the Flames’ Saint John farm team in the American Hockey League.

Lowry has played 1,032 games in the NHL and has 158 goals and 172 assists. He had seven goals in 62 games last season. He was left unprotected in the annual waiver draft Friday, but there were no takers.

Lowry broke into the NHL in 1985 with Vancouver and has also played for St. Louis, Florida and San Jose.
