Man Accused of Stabbing Daughter Arrested
WALLACE, Idaho (AP) _ A sex offender who had been sought for a week in the near-fatal stabbing of his 12-year-old daughter was arrested early Wednesday, a sheriff’s dispatcher said.
John R. Tuggle was being held in the Shoshone County jail, dispatcher Jim Shields said. Details on the arrest will be released later, he said. No charges had been filed yet.
Tuggle’s daughter was stabbed repeatedly and left for dead on the side of a mountain road July 20, and was found four to five hours later by campers who heard her yell. She remained in serious condition Wednesday at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Wash.
Sheriff Chuck Reynalds has said Tuggle was the only suspect in the attack.
Tuggle, 37, was released from prison last year after serving nine years for raping his 14-year-old sister-in-law. He had been living with his brother in Colorado, but drove to Idaho last month to see his daughter and son. Tuggle and the children’s mother divorced while he was in prison.
Tuggle, who had not seen his daughter since she was a toddler, showed up last week at the home of his ex-wife in Athol, Idaho, and said he wanted to take the child shopping, authorities said.
He was not under state supervision except for the requirement to register as a sex offender, which Colorado officials said he had done.
