Butterfly education awaits at Conservatory

May 3, 2019

The 17th annual live butterfly exhibit is underway at Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory. This spring’s theme is “Migrations.”

Before visitors enter the garden, they can stop and trace the migration of five species such as monarch and painted lady butterflies on a world map. Other displays show milkweed feeding grounds and tell how some species survive Indiana winters without migrating.

Inside the Showcase Garden, the butterfly tent is surrounded by a path with signposts and flags highlighting places such as Mexico, Nebraska and Indiana where monarchs spend some time.

And, of course, when visitors have gotten their fill of learning new things, the butterfly tent awaits with a variety of species to check out up close and personal.
