No arrest in Oklahoma family shooting that killed dad, son
PAWHUSKA, Okla. (AP) — A northeastern Oklahoma sheriff says the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old man who had shot and killed his father may have been in self-defense.
Osage County Sheriff Eddie Virden said Thursday that Ty Kirchner was shot by a relative during an altercation shortly after Kirchner fatally shot his 45-year-old father, Travis Kirchner, Wednesday night.
Deputies had initially said the father shot the son.
Virden said both Kirchners were dead at the scene north of Pawhuska, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) north of Tulsa.
The relative’s name was not released and Kirchner said that person was not arrested while authorities investigate the self-defense claim.
The sheriff said a report will be turned over to the district attorney, who will determine whether to file charges.
