Force’s Hugh McMeniman banned for 1 match
PERTH, Australia (AP) — Former Wallabies backrower Hugh McMeniman will miss the Western Force’s must-win Super Rugby match against the ACT Brumbies on Friday after being suspended for one week for kneeing an opponent.
McMeniman was sin-binned then cited for kneeing Queensland Reds’ flyhalf Ben Lucas during last weekend’s match at Perth. The one-match suspension was imposed Monday by SANZAR judicial officer Nicholas Davidson, who accepted McMeniman’s guilty plea.
Davidson found McMeniman’s action was at the lower end of the scale of an offense which carries a minimum two week suspension and “together with McMeniman’s outstanding disciplinary record over nine years, this warranted a discount to one week.”
The Force must beat the Brumbies to have a chance of qualifying for the playoffs for the first time in their nine-year history.
