Man charged with shooting Renton landlord upon eviction
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — A 31-year-old man has been charged with first-degree assault in the shooting of a woman who had been serving an eviction notice in the Seattle suburb of Renton.
SeattlePI.com reports that on Tuesday morning, the woman, who is Joshua Gasperic’s landlord, tried to text and call Gasperic to inquire about paying rent, but she didn’t receive a response.
The Renton Police Department says she decided with the advice from an attorney to serve an eviction notice. Police say she saw him outside and left the paperwork near him.
Court documents say he went inside, returned with a rifle and fired at the woman as she sat in her truck.
Officials say the woman was taken to a Seattle hospital in critical condition but has since been treated and released.
Gasperic remains jailed on $250,000 bail. It wasn’t known if he had obtained a lawyer.
