Flames’ Goalie Out With Knee Injury

December 31, 2003

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) _ Calgary Flames goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff will be sidelined four to six weeks because of a sprained ligament in his left knee.

He was injured in Monday night’s 2-2 tie with Minnesota but played the entire game.

The Flames recalled goaltender Dany Sabourin from Lowell of the AHL to back up Jamie McLennan against Colorado on Wednesday.

Calgary has been without regular starter Roman Turek since he tore a knee ligament in October. Turek, who has missed 31 games, practiced Tuesday and could return to the lineup in the next few weeks.

Kiprusoff, acquired from San Jose on Nov. 16, has been a key to Calgary’s recent strong play, going 11-3-2 with a 1.48 goals-against average and .941 save percentage.

Sabourin is 4-5-1 with a 2.81 goals-against-average with the Lock Monsters this season. In four games with the Flames this season, he is 0-3-0 with a 3.55 goals-against-average.
