24 accused of running Puerto Rico criminal ring
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Federal authorities in Puerto Rico are serving arrest warrants for 24 people accused of drug trafficking, carjackings, drive-by shootings and other crimes.
U.S. Attorney Rosa Emilia Rodriguez says the suspects operated mostly in the San Juan neighborhood of Cupey and the northern town of Trujillo Alto.
She said Thursday that five of the accused ran drug distribution points and 17 others served as gunmen. Rodriguez said the group also is accused of participating in numerous home invasions and selling stolen items for cash.
The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives oversaw the investigation with help from Puerto Rico police.
