AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Tim Cossins hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning as Oklahoma beat top-ranked Texas 11-8 to end the Longhorns’ 15-game winning streak.

Reliever Steve Connelly (2-1) allowed three hits in four innings in Wednesday’s game to record the victory and Darvin Traylor got the final two outs for his second save. Oklahoma improved to 9-5 and Texas dropped to 21-3.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The Los Angeles Dodgers became the sixth major league team to restrict smoking in an open-air stadium.

The Dodgers announced Wednesday that smoking will be prohibited in seating areas and rest rooms at Dodger Stadium for the 1993 season. Employees and fans will be permitted to smoke in certain areas of the ballpark.

A designated smoking and non-smoking area will remain in effect in the Stadium Club and club level cafeteria.

Baltimore, Detroit, Oakland, San Diego and Toronto are the other teams to limit smoking in open-air stadiums.

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Karianne Eriksen won the women’s giant slalom and teammate Heidi Standteiner finished third as Utah took a 25.5-point lead over Vermont on the opening day of the NCAA ski championships.

Eriksen finished Wednesday’s racein 1 minute, 53.48 seconds. Defending champion Sally Knight of Vermont was second in 1:54.71 and Standteiner third in 1:54.86.

Colorado’s Sean Ramsden edged Utah’s Per Johanssen by 0.17 seconds in the men’s giant slalom with a time of 1:43.16. Vermont’s Jeff McVey finished third in 1:43.74.

Utah had 208 points, followed by Vermont with 182.5 and Colorado with 164.

BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) - Anderlecht defender Philippe Albert, who won the 1992 Golden Shoe award as Belgium’s player of year, was suspended for six games for spitting in an opponent’s face in a Belgian cup game against Geel.

Albert said Wednesday that he’ll appeal the suspension, which does not include Belgium’s World Cup qualifying game with Wales on March 31.

ZAO, Japan (AP) - Christian Reinthaler of Austria had jumps of 265 feet, 9 inches and 300-2 today to win the 70-meter normal hill event in the Zao International Ski Jumping meet with 227.1 points.
