Avon Theatre: ‘Office Space’ gets ‘cult’ screening

August 7, 2018

The 1999 workplace comedy “Office Space” is getting a “cult classics” screening at the Avon Theatre.

The movie, written and directed by Mike Judge, follows a group of young office drones dealing with the stress of working for a passive-aggressive boss (Gary Cole).

One computer programmer (Ron Livingston) goes to a hypnotherapist for relief but when the man dies in the middle of a session, the office worker is left frozen in a relaxed “who cares?” state that serves him surprisingly well.

Jennifer Aniston play’s Livingston’s girlfriend who faces her own work problems as a waitress at a casual dining chain.

The movie was a box office bomb in its original theatrical release, but quickly became a cult favorite from frequent cable screenings and the best-selling DVD.

Avon Theatre, 272 Bedford St., Stamford. Thursday, Aug. 16 at 8:30 p.m. $13-$8. 203-967-3660
