Dupree Leads Temple Past Duquesne
PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ Candice Dupree tied her career-high with 31 points Sunday, helping No. 22 Temple advance to the championship game of the Atlantic 10 tournament for the third straight year with a 76-63 victory over Duquesne.
Dupree scored 22 first-half points and finished 11-of-15 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line for the Owls (23-7), who face top-seeded George Washington (22-7) in the championship game Monday.
Kamesha Hairston added 17 points and tied her career-high with 12 rebounds for the third-seeded Owls.
Temple shot 52 percent from the field and made 25-of-30 free throws. The Owls, who led 42-29 at halftime, wasn’t threatened by Duquesne in the second half.
Nicole Sinclair scored 14 points and Loui Hall added 12 for the Dukes, who finished the season 13-17 after advancing to the semifinals of the tournament for the first time since 1992.
Temple, guided by coach Dawn Staley, has won the last two conference tournaments.
George Washington defeated fifth-seeded Saint Joseph’s 53-51 in the first semifinal on Sunday.
