ENOREE, S.C. (AP) — Authorities have identified a man who was shot and killed after police in South Carolina said he pointed a crossbow at officers.
Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said 44-year-old Jeffery Paul Fabio died at the scene of the shooting in Enoree around 9:40 a.m. Friday.
Clevenger said in a statement he ordered an autopsy to gather evidence.
Investigators say two Spartanburg County deputies shot at Fabio after his estranged wife called 911, saying he came to her home, was intoxicated and tried to sexually assault her.
Authorities say Fabio refused to drop the crossbow for 15 minutes and asked officers to kill him before pointing the weapon at deputies.
The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating Fabio’s death.
