Sheriff: Body of missing autistic boy found in Florida pond
LAKE MARY, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say the body of a missing 6-year-old Florida boy with autism has been found in a pond near his home.
In an Orlando Sentinel report , the Seminole County sheriff said Humza Mohammad Syed had wandered away from his family’s home in Lake Mary on Saturday evening.
The boy’s older brothers reported him missing after noticing the garage door was open.
Sheriff Dennis Lemma said foul play was not suspected in the boy’s death, and deputies were not conducting a criminal investigation.
Lemma said relatives told investigators the boy often ran away when he became angry or frightened.
An autopsy is pending. Relatives told authorities the boy didn’t know how to swim.
About 50 neighbors in family’s gated community joined law enforcement officers searching the area Saturday night and early Sunday.
