ABL Scoring Leader Out for Season

November 23, 1998

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Carolyn Young, a guard for the New England Blizzard and the ABL’s career scoring leader, will miss the remainder of the season because of a knee injury.

Young tore the anterior cruciate ligament and the medial collateral ligament in her right knee when she was hit from behind while attempting a shot with 5:04 remaining Saturday.

A 1991 graduate of Auburn, Young is a two-time ABL All-Star and has never missed a game. She has played in 91, starting in all but two. She has 1,910 career points in the ABL and had a league-high 21.2 average during the league’s first season in 1996-97. She finished last year a 21.9 average, second to Portland’s Natalie Williams.

Surgery is expected within two week and recovery can take up to nine months, Blizzard head trainer Jeanna Polonchek said.
