Alfernez “Al” Hodges, 57, of Bourbonnais, went home to be with the Lord from his residence after a short illness Oct. 1, 2018.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, until the 11 a.m. funeral services at the Morning Star Baptist Church in Kankakee. Pastor Montele A. Crawford will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded after the service, per Al’s request.
Alfernez was born June 19, 1961, in Chicago, the son of Allen and Rosie Mae Davis Hodges.
He was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church where in sang in and was chaplain of the choir. He also was employed as the custodian. Previously, he was employed at Kankakee Terrace.
Al was married to the former Brenda Hardy, in Kankakee, on Feb. 14, 2000. She preceded him in death. Al enjoyed bike riding, public speaking (motivational) and singing.
Surviving are his son, Alfernez Hodges Carter, of Chicago; his granddaughter, Jayla Carter, of Chicago; his special companion of many years, Debra Fulton Burton, of Bourbonnais; sisters, Coletta Harris, of Midlothian, Monalese Harris and Elfredia Packer, of Chicago; brothers, Curtis Harris, of Cleveland, Ohio, and Jarmeze Harris, of Chicago; along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including good friend, Joseph Begley.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Joseph and Angelo Harris.
