United States Rugby Dominates Japan
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ The United States beat Japan 69-27 in the opening match of the inaugural Super Powers Cup on Saturday.
U.S. fullback Link Wilfley snapped a 17-17 halftime tie with two tries early in the second half. Center Kain Cross scored three tries.
The Americans beat Japan for the 11th time in 14 matches dating to 1985. The teams will meet at the World Cup in Australia in October.
Russia and China are also in the competition, but China’s matches have been postponed indefinitely because of the SARS outbreak.
Japan is scheduled to host Russia on May 25, and the U.S. team is scheduled to face Russia on July 19.
