Wyoming secretary of state denied judge job by governor
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming’s secretary of state will not become a circuit court judge.
Gov. Mark Gordon announced Friday he has appointed private-practice attorney and Torrington municipal judge Nathaniel Hibben to the circuit court vacancy in Torrington.
Gordon passed over Secretary of State Ed Buchanan, a fellow Republican who was among the three finalists. Buchanan is an attorney and former state lawmaker from Torrington.
Gov. Matt Mead appointed Buchanan secretary of state in 2018 following the resignation of Ed Murray. Buchanan went on to win election in November.
Buchanan says in a press release from Gordon’s office he will continue to serve as secretary of state “without hesitation.”
Wyoming Supreme Court Clerk Patricia Bennett also was a finalist selected by the Wyoming Judicial Nominating Commission.
