Kuerten, Hewitt, Agassi Top Masters
SYDNEY, Australia (AP) _ The top ranking in men’s tennis will be on the line for Gustavo Kuerten, Lleyton Hewitt and Andre Agassi at the Masters Cup beginning Monday.
Kuerten of Brazil is ranked first and won the French Open this year. Hewitt of Australia is the U.S. Open champion and is ranked second. Agassi, ranked third, won the Australian Open to begin the season.
Kuerten, who finished 2000 ranked No. 1, has won six tournaments this year. He is the only South American ever ranked No. 1 at the end of a season.
The 20-year-old Hewitt would be the youngest top-ranked player at the end of the season. Agassi, 31, would be the oldest.
Also in the field are Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain, Yevgeny Kafelnikov of Russia, Patrick Rafter of Australia, Sebastian Grosjean of France and Wimbledon winner Goran Ivanisevic of Croatia.
