‘Hoosiers in Flight’ to be topic of historical society meeting
La PORTE — “Hoosiers in Flight” will be the topic for the next La Porte County Historical Society meeting on Tuesday at the La Porte County Historical Society Museum at 7 p.m.
Bruce Johnson, society president, will share a visual presentation about the lives of people from Indiana including Wilbur Wright who have been instrumental in the history of aviation.
Highlighted will be La Porte High School graduate Roy W. Johnson who was instrumental in developing the forerunner of the NASA space program under the Eisenhower administration in the 1950s.
Purdue University and its role in the work of Amelia Earhart and its prominence as the “Cradle of Astronauts” will be an important part of the program.
The lives of Hoosier astronauts Gus Grissom, David Wolf, Jerry Ross and many others will be shared.
