Plane Crashes Near Bucharest Airport
BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) _ A passenger jet flown by the Romanian airline Tarom crashed Friday near Bucharest airport shortly after takeoff for Brussels, authorities said. All 58 people on board were feared killed.
The plane crashed just after 9 a.m. near the village of Balotesti, 13 miles outside the capital, Bucharest, and close to its international airport Otopeni.
The Tarom aircraft had 48 passengers on board and 10 crew members, said Dumitru Plesa of civil aviation at Otopeni.
He said there were no known survivors. He said the reason for the crash was unknown.
