Dinner Theater kicks off in January

HURRICANE — January is cold, but area residents can have a hot date, a hot meal and a hot show thanks to Hurricane’s Red Hot and Heat Wave show choirs.

For over 20 years, the Hurricane High School Red Hot Show Choir has been entertaining audiences across the country with its award-winning shows.

Red Hot will start the 2019 year with its highly anticipated annual Dinner Theater, scheduled for Jan. 4-6. This event kicks off the competition season for Red Hot and Heat Wave. The event features local celebrity emcees, a great dinner and an opportunity for the community to enjoy top-notch, live entertainment.

More than 1,600 people from the Hurricane community attend the dinner theater each year and Red Hot thanks them for the support, according to a news release.

The meal also features musical entertainment by show choir members, along with awarding more than $2,000 in door prizes donated by local businesses. Each show will also have a raffle for various items which will be given away after dinner.

Dinner Theater provides for a full-service meal served by the Red Hot and Heat Wave students and parents. The meal includes roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, salad, homemade rolls, dessert and drink.

Following dinner, guests will go into the gym where they will be treated to a sneak peak of the entire 2019 competition show that the students have been preparing since last August. Both Red Hot and Heat Wave will perform at all four shows. Saturday evening is Senior Recognition Night.

Proceeds from the weekend will help fund the group’s expenses for the upcoming competition season.

Show times are 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4; 12 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5 and 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6.

Cost is $18 for adults and $13 for children age 10 and under for those making advance reservation and payment. Cost will be $20 for adults and $15 for children age 10 and under at the door. Additional fees will be charged for those wishing to pay by credit card.

The event is held at Hurricane High School and doors open 45 minutes prior to dinner. Seating will be reserved with table assignments, so reservations are highly recommended and can be made by calling 304-743-0950.
