Shelba D. Smedley, 80, of Bradley, lost her battle with breast cancer Saturday (Feb. 2, 2019) at Amita Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee.
She was born Nov. 17, 1938, in Indianapolis, the daughter of Lester and Allie Perdue Jones. Shelba married Rodger Smedley on Aug. 22, 1969, in Bradley.
Shelba was a waitress at the former South China Restaurant for more than 25 years. She became a caregiver after her retirement. Shelba was very hardworking and worked until she was no longer able. She enjoyed game shows, going to rummage sales, being with her three dogs, Cotton, Oscar and Fefe, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, children and grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband, Rodger Smedley, of Bradley; three daughters, Shelia (Allen) Mailloux, of St. Anne, Sherry (Dennis) Goad, of Kankakee, and Malicia Deneau, of Agoura Hills, Calif.; her grandchildren, Jacob (Heather) Mailloux, Brandy (Stephen) Mailloux-Pepin, Allie (Joe) Mailloux-Muncy, Tonya (Brian) Gibson, Jamie (Misty) Salm, Matthew (Cori) Deneau and Nicole Deneau; her great-grandchildren, Jessie, Dylan, Katy, Stephen, Kaitlyn and Kylie; and one great-great-granddaughter, Bailee.
Preceding her in death were her parents; previous husband, William Howard; one daughter, Sandra Smedley; and one brother, Harvey Duffer.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, until the 2 p.m. funeral service at Schreffler Funeral Homes, Bourbonnais Chapel. Burial will follow in Kankakee Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Aroma Township.
