Daytime lane closures on Merritt Parkway to last 6 weeks
WESTPORT - The state Department of Transportation says there will be daytime right lane closures of the northbound Merritt Parkway between Exit 42 and the North Avenue overpass in Westport.
The lane closure - a distance of 1.5 miles - began Monday and will last until May 16.
Lane closures will occur during the morning hours from 6 a.m to noon, Monday through Thursday only. All lanes will be restored by 12:30 p.m..
The daytime closures are in addition to ongoing nighttime lane closures in the northbound and southbound directions. To avoid congestion that may occur, motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.
DOT says “The lane closures are necessary to facilitate work associated with improving a 5-mile section of the Merritt Parkway (Route 15) and restoring 11 historic bridges (over and underpasses) from the Newtown Turnpike overpass in Westport to the Congress Street overpass in Fairfield. Roadway improvements include new drainage systems, new Merritt Parkway guiderail and barrier systems, new signing, and upgrades to the roadway pavement to current standards.”
The project was awarded to Manafort Brothers, Inc. at a cost of $56,712,000 and is scheduled to be completed Aug. 8, 2020.
