Redskins sign Kapri Bibbs, Kenny Ladler to practice squad
ASHBURN The Redskins signed running back Kapri Bibbs and seven others to the practice squad Sunday after the eight players were released on Saturday.
Bibbs has impressed since joining the Redskins last November. He had 79 rushing yards and 128 receiving yards in three games last season and had a strong training camp. But the Redskins elected to keep five other running backs on the roster: Adrian Peterson, Chris Thompson, Rob Kelley, Samaje Perine and Byron Marshall.
If he had made the roster, Bibbs would have been Thompson’s backup, but Washington preferred to have two backups for Peterson instead.
″[Bibbs has] done everything right,” coach Jay Gruden said Saturday from a charity event in Leesburg toraisemoney to benefit youth homelessness. “He’s been great in pass protection, been good in the pass routes, been running the ball very well. But at the end of the day, it’s about numbers.”
Gruden also said Saturday that Marshall (sprained ACL, MCL) is expected to go on injured reserve.
Besides Bibbs, the Redskins added safety Kenny Ladler, wide receiver Darvin Kidsy, wide receiver Simmie Cobbs Jr., tight end Matt Flanagan, linebacker Cassanova McKinzy, tackle Timon Parris and defensive lineman JoJo Wicker.
The Redskins have two more spots available on their practice squad.
