LJUBLJANA, Slovenia (AP) — Police in Slovenia say that an angry protester has sprayed the mayor of Ljubljana with tear gas.

They say the incident took place late on Thursday in the Slovenian capital when mayor Zoran Jankovic ran into a group of demonstrators during an anti-corruption gathering in central Ljubljana. Police say a young man approached Jankovic and sprayed the tear gas into his eyes.

Jankovic was briefly hospitalized. On Friday, he urged the attacker "to come have a coffee with me and tell me what his allegations are and what he wants from me."

Police are still looking for the assailant.

Jankovic has faced accusations of corruption involving construction of a sports complex. He has denied the allegations.
