Cab & cans: Local taxi company donates items to Food for Families
BULLHEAD CITY — Regal Cab LLC spent the first half of December collecting canned food for a Bullhead City food bank.
They brought the donation to Food for Families on Thursday morning.
“It’s better to give than receive,” said Hugo Oliva, owner of Regal.
His company donated a can of food for each customer who rode during that 15-day stretch.
“Employees and management also added to the total,” said Dan Ochoa, Regal’s day manager. “We’re really excited about it.”
The slogan for the effort was “You Ride — We Donate.” And as a result the company delivered more than 200 cans of food.
Ochoa said customers were included in the giving process. They were provided with sticky tags and pens to sign their names on the tags.
“They felt really good signing those tags,” Ochoa said.
Ochoa added that most likely do this again next year: “We’re so glad to help out people who need food in our community.”
The food bank was started by Praise Chapel but it eventually became a nonprofit.
Many of the volunteers are Praise Chapel members and Pastor Allen Cates remains integral in its operations. He took the Olivas and Ochoa for a tour of the property.
