Area state park plans ‘first-day hike’

PONCA — One way to start the new year next Tuesday will be to participate in a “first-day hike” at Ponca State Park here.

Starting at 2 p.m., the park’s naturalist team will be leading a guided hike on Bigley’s Ravine Trail. It’s 1.6 miles with a difficulty level of moderate. The trail covers hilly terrain through heavy forest of oak, hackberry and ironwood trees, with glimpses of the Missouri River.

At the conclusion of the guided hike, hot chocolate and s’mores will be served at the park’s west shelter house.

All vehicles entering Ponca State Park are required to have a state park permit. For additional information, contact the park at 402-755-2284.
