Louisiana town’s police chief resigns
MONTGOMERY, La. (AP) — A Louisiana town’s police chief has resigned.
KALB-TV reports Montgomery Police Chief Kerrell Sapp announced Friday that he is quitting the post he’s held for almost two years. He told the television station that he chose to step down after new Mayor Steve Gunn suspended him for insubordination, allegedly for not changing police cars with a deputy.
Sapp says he had a great relationship with the last administration and a majority of the council wanted him to stay in place until a special meeting was called. But, he says he has no desire to work with the current mayor.
The town’s council had planned to discuss the matter Monday, but the meeting was canceled after Sapp’s resignation.
There’s no word on when Gunn will fill the vacancy.
