Houston Republicans decry Democratic fundraiser with Stormy Daniels attorney Michael Avenatti

WASHINGTON — The nation’s partisan food fight is coming to Houston next week when Democratic lawyer Michael Avenatti, best known for suing President Donald Trump on behalf of porn star Stormy Daniels, headlines a fundraiser for the Harris County Democratic Party.

Avenatti, most recently in the news for representing Julie Swetnick, one of three women who accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault, is scheduled to speak to local Democrats next Tuesday at Poitin, a high-end Houston restaurant.

Harris County Republicans have made their displeasure known.

“This is a new low,” Harris County GOP officials wrote in a fundraising email to supporters Tuesday. “Featuring bottom-feeding porn star lawyer Avenatti as a leader of the Democratic Party. This is a sample of the future if Democrats win ...”

The Harris County Democrats’ mailer for the fundraiser says, “Stand up and fight back with Michael Avenatti.” It identifies Avenatti as a “prominent figure of the resistance against the Trump agenda.”

The Democratic fundraiser comes a day after a high-stakes debate between Republican U.S. Rep. John Culberson and Democratic challengers Lizzie Pannill Fletcher at the University of Houston Monday evening.

Avenatti, a potential 2020 presidential candidate, has been embroiled in a high-profile effort to void a non-disclosure agreement Daniels signed, allegedly to cover up an affair with Trump.
