Havasu swimming a touch off at state meet
MESA — The Lake Havasu boys swim team fell just short of placing a finalist at the state swim meet this weekend at the Arizona State Swimming and Diving Championships at the Skyline Aquatic Center.
Knights senior Michael Johnsen finished in 18th place in the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 5 minutes, 5.81 seconds to place just two spots outside of the final. AJ Alexander, a junior, finished 18th in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.31 also missing the finals by two spots.
Knights senior Nicholas Rizzo finished 22nd in the 100 butterfly in 56.77, less than a second off qualifying for the B final. Evan McMillan, a sophomore, finished 24th in the 200 individual medley in 2:11.49. The 200 medley relay team was disqualified from its heat and didn’t post a time.
Canyon del Oro won the Division II boys championship and Phoenix Arcadia won the girls title.
