Fitchburg HS Grad and U.S. Marine Found Dead on Okinawa Base

FITCHBURG -- A Marine and recent Fitchburg High School graduate Ronald Valentin was found dead at base on Okinawa Thursday.

The body of Pvt. 1st Class Ronald Valentin, 21, of Fitchburg, was found at about 2 p.m. Thursday at Camp Smedley D. Butler, a military newspaper reported.

Pvt. Valentin was assigned to Headquarters and Support Battalion Consolidated Postal System, according to Stars and Stripes newspaper.

Pvt. Valentin graduated from Fitchburg High School in 2015.

He had been awarded the Global War on Terrorism Medal and the National Defense Medal, according to Stars and Stripes.

The cause of Valentin’s death remains under investigation, the paper reported.
