Thousands Riot, Throw Bottles, Rocks Outside Grateful Dead Concert

July 3, 1995

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ Several thousand people rioted Sunday night outside a Grateful Dead concert, throwing rocks and bottles and damaging some police cars before officers used tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Nobody was injured, said Cpl. Clint Bundy of the Indiana State Police.

The riot began in the parking lot of the outdoor arena, about 15 miles from Indianapolis, after the crowd tried to get into the concert by rushing the gate, he said.

Police made some arrests but Bundy did not have details. The crowd was estimated at between 5,000 and 10,000 people.
