Odd Fellows building eyed for future community hub
WALLINGFORD, Vt. (AP) — A Vermont woman has purchased a former Odd Fellows building with the hopes of turning it into a new community hub.
The Rutland Herald reports Michelle Kenny bought the building in Wallingford in May.
The three-story, 13,400 square-foot (1,244-square-meter) building dates back to the 1820s, and it was named for the Odd Fellows Club that owned it.
Kenny says rehabilitating the building will cost between $1.4 and $1.7 million. She plans to apply for a variety of grants and tax credits to help fund repairs.
Kenny says she wants to add a coffee shop and bakery to the building, and possibly a wellness center in the future.
Workers at a restaurant inside the building say they are looking forward to the changes Kenny plans to bring.
