Switchback in Franklin Grove

FRANKLIN GROVE– Switchback returns to the H.I. Lincoln Building, 136 N. Elm St., for two shows, at 7 and 8 p.m. Friday.

Nationally and internationally acclaimed musicians Brian FitzGerald and Marty McCormack will provide a rousing evening of American roots blended with Celtic soul.

Tickets cost $10 at the building, or at 815-456-3030, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and from noon to 4.p.m. Friday, and at the door.

Christmas open house at the Dillon Home

STERLING – The Dillon Home’s annual Christmas open house offers nonguided walk-throughs of the 1858 Italianate, all decked out for Christmas, from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at 1500 E. Third St.

Guided tours are available on the hour, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday. The last tour is offered an hour before closing.

The cost is $5 for those 13 and older, and $4 for seniors. Call 815-622-6202 for more information.

DIXON – The Sauk Valley Community College Theater Department presents “A Christmas Carol,” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the school’s Jerry Mathis Theater.

Tickets cost $8 for adults, $5 for students with a Sauk ID.

​The Winter Rose

MOUNT MORRIS – “The Winter Rose” by Joseph and Pamela Martin, a free concert featuring musicians from all over the region, begins at 3 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 308 E. Brayton Road.

A harpist, organist and brass group will perform at 2:45 p.m., and a violinist will perform at intermission. A reception follows at the church.

The Seasonal Sights and Sounds of Sterling Downtown Christmas Walk begins at 5 p.m. Friday with shopping, live entertainment, ice-sculpting demonstrations, Santa’s Workshop in the parking lot behind Grummert’s Hardware, a Makers Market in the Big Red Church, 311 Second Ave., and more.
