Wings sign Kocur
DETROIT (AP) _ The Detroit Red Wings, criticized for not being physical enough, signed rugged right wing Joey Kocur on Friday.
Kocur, 32, who played five seasons for the Wings before being traded to the New York Rangers in 1991, has 2,270 career penalty minutes in 684 NHL games. He has 70 goals and 71 assists.
``Joey brings a winning attitude to our lineup, along with providing experience and a physical presence,″ Wings coach Scotty Bowman said. ``He should fit in very well with the chemistry of our team.″
Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
The Wings had been without a true enforcer since Stu Grimson was claimed off waivers by Hartford in October.
Kocur, who played for the Rangers for 5 1/2 seasons, was traded to Vancouver on March 20. He had been without an NHL contract this season and had been playing with the San Antonio Dragons of the International Hockey League.
Kocur is expected to be ready to play when the Red Wings play the New York Islanders on Saturday.
