IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) _ Reserve Morris Peterson scored a career-high 27 points to lead No. 8 Michigan State to a 94-81 victory over No. 14 Iowa on Saturday, the Spartans' ninth straight win.

Peterson, who led his team with 19 points in an 80-65 win over the Hawkeyes on Jan. 21, had 16 points in the first half on 6-of-7 shooting. Peterson, whose previous best was 24 points against Duke on Dec. 2, finished 9-of-12, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range.

Charlie Bell added 16 points and Mateen Cleaves had 14 points and nine assists for the first-place Spartans (20-4, 9-1), who haven't lost since a 66-51 defeat to Wisconsin in the Big Ten opener.

Joey Range scored 16 points and Sam Okey had 10 for the Hawkeyes (15-6, 6-5), who have lost five of seven, while losing to the Spartans for the fifth straight time and nine of the last 11.

A layup by Kent McCausland pulled the Hawkeyes within 15-14 midway in the first half, but a 3-pointer by Doug Davis started a 15-2 run, capped by Jason Klein's basket, that gave Michigan State a 30-16 lead with 7:43 remaining in the half.

The Spartans, who shot 61 percent in the first half and 58 percent for the game, was 6-of-10 on 3s in the first half and led by as many as 17 points three times. They were up 49-27 at halftime.

Iowa made a brief comeback to open the second half, with Range scoring four points in an 8-2 run that chopped MSU's lead to 51-35 with 19:04 remaining. Range missed Iowa's 90-75 loss Thursday at Purdue because of the flu.

Cleaves ended Iowa's run with a 3-pointer that ignited an 11-2 run by the Spartans to give them a 62-37 lead with 15:58 to play.
