Massachusetts Senate panel on marijuana to release findings
BOSTON (AP) — Members of a legislative panel who visited Colorado to learn about the legalization of recreational marijuana are set to release their findings.
Democratic Senate President Stan Rosenberg will join members of the Senate Special Committee on Marijuana at the Statehouse on Tuesday to discuss the report.
The press conference comes a day after a Statehouse hearing on a proposal before the Legislature’s Judiciary Committee that would allow the recreational use and possession of up to an ounce of marijuana for those 21 and older.
The committee was created last year in response to the proposal, which will likely be a 2016 ballot question.
The proposal would also create a 3.75 percent state excise tax on retail marijuana sales to be assessed on top of the state’s 6.25 percent sales tax.
