NE Indiana man charged in fiery June crash that killed woman

July 11, 2018

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — A northeastern Indiana man has been charged in a fiery June car crash that killed a passenger.

Twenty-nine-year Jeremy J. Hoerger of New Haven was charged Monday with reckless homicide and driving while intoxicated causing death.

The Journal Gazette reports court documents say Hoerger had a blood-alcohol content of 0.27 percent, or more than three times Indiana’s legal limit, when his car failed to negotiate a curve, struck a tree and caught fire.

Witnesses pulled the unconscious Hoerger from the wreck, but could not extract 27-year-old Juliet Ann Taylor Schebelt. She died from blunt force injuries after being crushed by the car’s impact with the tree.

Online court records do not list an attorney who could speak on Hoerger’s behalf.
