SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) _ David Wright rushed for 153 yards and broke the Gateway Conference rushing record as Indiana State beat Southwest Missouri State 16-9 on Saturday.

Wright has rushed for 3,820 career total yards for the Sycamores (5-1 overall, 3-0 Gateway).

Southwest Missouri (1-5, 0-3) took an early 3-0 lead on a 28-yard field goal by Wayne Boyer.

Indiana State took a 13-3 halftime lead on 40- and 28-yard field goals by Tom Allison and a 6-yard touchdown pass from Kevin Cox to Larry Gauer.

Boyer kicked field goals of 30 and 21 yards for the Bears and Allison connected on a 21-yarder for the Sycamores for the only scoring in the second half.

Michael Cosey ran for 121 yards and Derek Jensen passed for 236 for the Bears.

Gauer finished with five catches for 58 yards for the Sycamores and Robbie Fresquez had five catches of 104 yards for the Bears.

Allison’s three field goals tied the Indiana State career record of 31.

Toby Davis of Illinois St. held the previous conference rushing record with 3,702 yards, set from 1989-92.
